Fly Fishing Education

Hunter Banks Fly Fishing has been serving the Southeast fly fishing community from our headquarters in Asheville, NC since 1985. During this time we have helped countless beginners move beyond the misconception that learning to fly fish is too difficult. Once a rod is in hand, our fun, friendly, and skilled fly fishing instructors have clients casting like professionals in no time, while also providing top-notch instruction on fly selection, knot tying, and reading water. We teach on the water with the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains as a backdrop.

People often find fly fishing to be an excellent accompaniment to an outdoor activity they already participate in. Do you mountain bike? Strap a fly fishing rod to your pack and ride to a remote stream full of native brook trout. Avid hiker? The same trails you hike throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains are many of the trails we use to access our favorite freestone streams. Own a raft or kayak? Float the French Broad or any of our surrounding tailwaters and fish for a multitude of species. Fly fishing doesn't have to take the place of your other hobbies, it enhances your experience with those activities.

Full Day Fly Fishing School

This is the preferred option for those looking for an immersive fly fishing learning experience. These sessions include all necessary gear, lunch and refreshments, along with professional instruction on fly casting, gear and tackle selection, essential knot tying, fly selection, reading water, and sustainable fishing practices.

Half Day Fly Fishing School

From $300

The half day option is ideal for those who are short on time or looking for a quick skill refresher. These sesions include all necessary equipment and instruction on fly casting, gear and tackle selection, and essential knot tying. You'll gain a solid understanding of the most important aspects of fly fishing.
